What to Expect at Your Evaluation

A no-pressure overview of the in-person evaluation at OMT of York — what we look at, how plans are built, and how to get started.

Direct answer

Every evaluation happens face-to-face in York or Bird in Hand. We need to see, assess, and understand — not guess over a screen.

You do not need a referral. We listen first, explain findings in plain language, and outline next steps without high-pressure tactics.

Definition

  • Visit flow typically includes a warm welcome, history of what you have noticed, and a functional look at breathing, Oral Rest Posture, swallow, speech-related patterns, and oral structures as indicated.
  • After the evaluation we build a personalized plan with clear milestones and short, repeatable exercises — with coaching along the way.
  • Therapy length depends on goals and patterns; there is no single cookie-cutter timeline.
  • If medical airway care, dental work, or a frenectomy is part of the picture, we help you understand sequencing with those providers.

When to use this guide

  • Use this page when you are ready to book — or when you want to know what "evaluation" means before calling.
  • Use it to prepare questions about offices, collaboration, and home practice.

Failure modes

  • Skipping the evaluation and buying generic exercise videos that ignore your airway or structural limits.
  • Expecting overnight change without consistent practice.
  • Delaying because you are waiting for a referral that is not actually required.

Proof & sources

  • FAQs: no referral required; visits in person; personalized plans; collaborative notes with other providers.
  • Journey steps published on About and Services: welcome → plan → guided therapy → lasting change.
  • Phone and contact form paths are published site-wide for York and Lancaster County families.
